Duties and Responsibilities

GUEST EXPERIENCE:

• Establish and maintain relationships with guests, members and co-workers.
• Greet guests and members and provide assistance in obtaining towels, directions and safety information as required.  Provide spa and guest stay information as appropriate.
• Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. 
• Ensure health club members and hotel guests are provided outstanding service and clean and well-maintained facilities to achieve satisfaction and their return.
• Ensure that safety procedures, guidelines and policies are followed to ensure guest safety.
• Warn guests of unsafe activities and ensure safe water practices and pool regulations.
• Provide appropriate first aid in the event of injury, rescuing swimmers in danger or distress and administering Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or artificial respiration if necessary.  Contact Security and/or 911 for immediate assistance if required.
• Inspect pool equipment, facilities and water to ensure they are usable and safe.
• Supervising and assisting in cleaning equipment and facilities at pool and health club.
• Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
• Actively monitors areas to recognize signs of danger and takes appropriate action.
• Maintains locker room area in a clean and orderly fashion, and ensures that facilities are kept stocked with adequate supplies of toiletries, soap, towels, etc.
• Removes soiled towels from pool area and health club throughout the day.
• Checks health club equipment regularly to ensure it is safe for usage as well as clean and aesthetically pleasing condition.
• Reports any mechanical problems immediately to department manager, as well as ensuring that any equipment deemed inoperable is not used.
• Monitors supply levels needed to operate the workspace and advises department manager.
• Is fully aware of emergency procedures, including fire, tornado, bomb threat, etc.
• Must know location of all fire extinguishers and emergency exits and assists guests in emergencies.
• When engaging in floor maintenance, displays portable signage to caution against possible slippage, etc.
• Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
• Assists staff to ensure guests have appropriate approval for access and may assist in obtaining waivers where required for guests and fitness club members.
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Lifeguards must have minimum requirements for life safety and completion of lifeguard training as required by the City of Chicago and State of Illinois.  This may include certificates in CPR, AED, first aid, rescue aids and with methods such as the use of lifebuoys and poles, or other requirements mandated by the position.

Recommended:  Certified Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, or equivalent; American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent; American Red Cross Standard First Aid, or equivalent

This job requires ability to perform the following:

• Frequently standing up and moving about the facility
• Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written
• Proficient in interacting with people of various ages from diverse backgrounds
• Physically fit, strong, agile and dexterous
• Carrying, pushing, or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Handling objects, job/career fair materials and booth set-up
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
