Job Description

Overview:  Responsible for maintaining the property's condition concerning all aspects of general upkeep maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and painting work, primarily focusing on electrical upkeep and problem resolution. Complete maintenance request work orders from all departments on a timely basis. Participate in the preventive maintenance program for all building equipment and rooms. Complete other special projects assigned periodically by the Engineering Department leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Notify the Engineering Coordinator you are on and off duty.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in person and over the phone, with management, Associates, and guests.
  • Hang doors, drill, and set door hardware.
  • Maintains general mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to work with carpentry tools and materials.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of the carpentry trade and repair and maintenance of the property.
  • Always keep the work area clean and well organized.
  • Climbs ladders to reach raised areas and works from scaffolding.
  • Operates various types of woodworking machines and electrical hand tools.
  • Able to meet deadlines set for each task.
  • Repair items such as furniture, gypsum board, or any other carpentry-related tasks.
  • Designs, cuts, builds and assembles wooden parts or furniture as requested.
  • Assemble and set prefabricated pieces.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies needed to perform the job functions.
  • Perform room and public area preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Keep track of repairs made or areas that need more attention.
  • Keep communication open between guests, management, and service tasks.
  • Report to management on major repairs and items that cannot be repaired for further action.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in quality control activities. 
  • Interact courteously and professionally with all guests, staff, and community members. 
  • Respond courteously, professionally, and rapidly to resolve all guest and staff difficulties. 
  • Perform various duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. 
  • Maintain clean and safe work area. 
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  • Ensure that standards, including grooming and staff attire, are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.
  • Models the company’s culture, vision, mission, and core values.
  • All other duties as required.

Technical Skills: Working knowledge of all carpentry supplies and equipment; knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal; working knowledge of health codes, national/local fire codes, local mechanical codes, blueprints, power and hand tools, meters, etc., as they relate to the technical trades; ability to interpret manufacturer's literature for installation, preparation, use, and upkeep of various materials and products used throughout the property, be well organized and follow instructions, focus attention on details, operate high reach lifts, prioritize tasks and comply with deadlines for work assignments, work and perform job functions with minimal supervision, work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team. 

Language: Required to speak, read, and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting up to 50 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding.

Qualifications:  High school diploma. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of carpentry experience in a similar capacity for a luxury or ultra-luxury property.
  • Minimum of 2 years general engineer experience in a similar capacity for a luxury or ultra-luxury property.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
  • Prior heavy exposure to carpeting. 
  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry.
  • Ability to be resourceful, creative, and maintain flexibility. 
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations with units of measure including, but not limited to, dollars, cents, feet, inches, cups, pounds, and ounces.
  • Required to speak, read, and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred 
  • Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 20-30 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding
  • Must perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.

  • Follow directions thoroughly.

The pay scale for this position is between $26.00 and $30.00/hour. This is the pay range for this position that the Hotel reasonably expects to pay.
