POSITION SUMMARY:
The Paramedic is responsible to support the Chief Nurse and the Medical Team to provide medical care to all Guests, TeamMembers, Contractors, Vendors, and Visitors on the Destination. The Paramedic assists the Chief Nurse and Doctor in all Destination health-related matters including outbreak prevention and illness reporting as required by international, national, and Company policies.

This role operates the Medical Centers front of house and assists the back of house Medical Team. This position reports to the Chief Nurse and is supported by the Doctor, Port Captain Safety, Shoreside Medical Operations, and Private Destinations Leadership. This position leads by example and requires exemplary organization, attention to detail, self-management skills, communication skills, emergency readiness, Guest and Team Member engagement, training, and knowledge of the product and service standards.All duties and responsibilities are performed following Royal Caribbean International’s Brand Standa rds, the Royal Way philosophy, Company policies, and SOPs, Public Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Promotes the confidentiality of all clinical and medical information.
  • Provides medical care for minor and major emergencies for the Team Members, Guests, and Visitors as instructed by the Chief Nurse and Doctor.
  • Leads and coordinates the team responding to an emergency, and transfers leadership duties when a Nurse, Chief Nurse, or Doctor arrives to the scene. 
  • Evaluates patient’s condition on the scene, performs preliminary diagnosis, and provides life support. • Immediately reports life threatening condition or any abnormality in the vital signs to the Chief Nurse and Doctor.Has ability to triage, treat appropriately, and document accordingly. 
  • Transfers patients from the emergency area to the nearest Medical Center or onboard the Ship.
  • Provides administrative assistance to the Chief Nurse and Doctor including completion of medical forms/reports.
  • Maintains current medical records for all Team Members. Maintains Guest illness logs and medical notes in SeaCare.
    Maintains and completes accidents, injury, and Public Health logs.
  • Additional responsibilities may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced Life Support Paramedic Qualification (or equivalent) and current registration and licensing with an appropriate governmental or national regulatory body. A valid accredited BLS/ACLS certification is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years post graduate clinical experience in paramedicine, emergency medicine or other acute care settings including remote medicine, and the most recent work experience should be in a clinical setting.
  • Excellent communication skills across a multicultural environment.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures, terminology, and medications.
  • Ability to stay calm and make the right decisions in adverse conditions.
  • Adaptable with a great deal of stamina.
  • Must have a professional appearance and good hygiene.
  • Strong organizational skills Ability to work under stress and tight deadlines.
  • Maintains decorum outside the Medical Centers to the highest standards.
  • Excessive alcohol intake is unacceptable.
  • Must be able to work seven (7) days a week if requested.
  • Experience working onboard ships or private islands preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  •  While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • All Destination Team Members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.

  • Outdoor environment where high temperature, precipitation, and humid temperatures are experienced.
