We are seeking a Director of Finance for our Viceroy Los Cabos Resort.

The position provides the financial expertise to enable the successful implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives while maximizing the return on investment to the owners and Viceroy Hotel Group.  In addition, creates and executes a business plan that is aligned with the property and brand’s business strategy and focuses on the execution of financial and accounting activities and the delivery of timely and accurate financial results.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial aspects of the hotel, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Lead and manage the hotel's budget, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Supervise the accounting team, providing guidance on financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, general cashiering, and overall process controls.
  • Collaborate with department heads to analyze financial performance and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Conduct regular audits to maintain the integrity of financial data, ensure accuracy, and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Interface with external auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard the hotel's assets.
  • Stay abreast of changes in Mexican financial regulations and adjust financial practices accordingly.
  • Upholds, understands, and regularly educates accounting team on SOPs.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage the month end close process to ensure internal and external financial deliverables are achieved timely and accurately.
  • Drive cost-effective initiatives and identify opportunities for revenue enhancement.
  • Monitor cash flow and optimize working capital management.
  • Review and approval of periodic balance sheet account balances and underlying support.
  • Develops means to improve profit, including estimating cost and benefit, exploring new business opportunities, etc.
  • Analyzes information, forecasts sales against expenses and creates annual budget plans.
  • Thinks proactively and practically to develop, execute, and implement new business plans.
  • Creates the annual operating budget for the property.
  • Provides analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost saving and productivity opportunities for property managers.
  • Implements a system of appropriate controls to manage business risks.
  • Ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability.
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan which is aligned with the company’s and brand’s strategic direction.
  • Produces accurate forecasts that enable operations to react to changes in the business.
  • Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example.
  • Leverages strong functional leadership and communication skills to influence the executive team, the property's strategies and to lead own team.
  • Manages communication with owners in an effective manner.
  • Manages property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements.
  • Ensures that the P&L is accurate (e.g., costs are properly matched to revenue, costs are recorded in the proper accounts).
  • Knowledge of local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (local GAAP) and latest edition of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
  • Ability to read and understand basic contract elements, e.g. royalty fees, management agreement, terms, priorities, and profit distribution.
  • Business Acumen - Understanding and utilizing business information (e.g., data used in the VHG Balanced Scorecard related to Colleague surveys, Guest Satisfaction, and Property Financial Performance) to manage everyday operations and generate innovative solutions to approach business and administrative challenges.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience in finance leadership roles within the hospitality industry.
  • Preferred experience with rental management programs and HOAs.
  • In-depth knowledge of Mexican accounting principles, taxation, and financial regulations.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.
