What’s the job?
- The role of the Director of Marketing Communications (Marcom & PR) is to nurture a strong industry network, increase awareness and develop an enviable corporate and hotel image by developing and executing effective communication and media relations programs and or hotel products that drive both positive awareness and in turns drives revenue to the property. As Director Marketing Communications, you’ll develop and implement media, digital, PR strategies to ensure revenue and room night sales goals are achieved. You also act as the Brand Ambassador for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, which may require from time to time for you to designate time to future hotel projects.
Your day-to-day
- Develop a marketing communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics
Records results, including ROI from PR/Marcom activities, with particular focus on any projects that require hotel funding from the P&L.
Makes a conscious effort to understand F&B operating budgets and monthly P&L
With the Line Manager, sets F&B growth goals and strategies for online channels as per F&B budget
Monitor, analyse and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis
Ensures cohesive short and long-term media strategies are in place and reflect the goals and objectives of the hotel
Help prepare the departmental budget and financial plans including the hotel marketing plan
Create and develop special events to showcase the hotel and increase sales and marketing opportunities
Supports the PR Coordinator to manage all TPI F&B related channels (i.e. Ikkyu, Oz Mall, Tabelog etc)
Monitors and reports weekly competition activities and updates
Develops special sales calendars for time sales and special sales activities in coordination with F&B revenue to increase online activities during low business periods
Manages all social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Line, Tripadvisor and others) to ensure a consistent message is presented
Creates a monthly posting and activity calendar to engage the related communities. Reviews content and related photography, creates video post and stories
Replies to guest comments and interacts with the community to promote in-house events to drive additional covers. Reports to line manager any potential risk or opportunity through social media chatter
Creates and links internal guest participation program in alignment with social media activities
Working with the line manager, sets stretch targets for volume of social media interaction and ensures that content required for this is communicated in advance to the relevant departments
Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
Direct social media team to engage audiences across traditional and new media
Manage media inquiries and interview requests
Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
Develop and maintain relationships with key clients and outside contacts in order to drive business for food & beverage, catering/banquets
Reviews the IHG brand website for any updates/changes to advertising or collateral standards, and proactively consults with the PR Manager on actions to be undertaken
Create content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations
Act as the key contact for the properties’ Public Relations and Web development agencies, and execution of communications to guests, maintaining relationships with key vendors and being an ambassador for both properties with regard to media requests.
Develops and executes strategic media, social media and communications programs to promote sales opportunities for the group, transient, catering markets with the Director of Sales & Marketing.
Researches, creates, edits, and gets approval of releases, and manages follow-up with media of all announcements, packages, property news, etc. with the Director of Sales & Marketing
Qualifications and Requirements
- Demonstrate superior writing and editing skills, and the ability to effectively communicate the hotel and restaurant’s stories.
Proven working experience in public relations required
Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and national level
Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets
Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews
Exceptional writing and editing skills and a wide degree of creativity and latitude
Solid experience with social media including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. and a tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms
Event planning and Risk Management experience
B A/MA degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications or a related discipline and at least three years of PR/Marcom, related experience is required
Type and level of experience required may vary slightly based on size and complexity of operation.
Must spe ak local language (Japanese) and be fluent in English. Other languages also preferred.
