Job Summary




Manages the efficient and safe operation of all plant, equipment, ancillary maintenance and repairs towards protection of the property asset including structural aspects of the building.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides advice to senior management on all aspects of engineering support, environmental best practices and controls and the operational efficiency of the property.
  • Ensures the effective financial management of the engineering department by setting maintenance budgets, capital works program’s and engineering plans and ensuring that performance against these is regularly monitored and reviewed. Responsible for the general cost control aspects of maintenance, the preparation of departmental cost budgets and their implementation and submission to management.
  • Assists with capital project planning, in liaison with senior management, to ensure capital funding is effectively allocated and budgeted in accordance with company directives and philosophy.
  • Plans, implements, and administers an energy management program by establishing energy management ‘best practices’ to achieve reductions in consumption, without negative impact to customers or associates, and maintains records and sets future performance targets against with the objective to reduce usage and enhance profitability.
  • Ensures the staff awareness of energy management within the property by conducting regular education and training programs on energy conservation and matters related to efficient operation of equipment in a cost-effective fashion.
  • Contributes to guest satisfaction standards by ensuring that technical support services quickly address, and where possible, anticipate, individual needs. Ensure the safety and comfort of guests and that any requests for service are handled in a courteous and efficient fashion.
  • Ensures adherence to all statutory regulations and fire codes by regularly reviewing policies and safety procedures. Ensures that any tests and inspections required on plant by statutory authorities are carried out as and when required and that all records and documentation associated with such tests and surveys are correctly kept and/or displayed. Ensure that the hotel fulfills all compliance requirements.
  • Ensures a technically competent engineering staff by selecting, training, and developing a motivated, well-qualified maintenance team. Carries out regular work sampling studies within the department to evaluate the performance and productivity of personnel.
  • Maintains the condition of the physical assets of the hotel by carrying out any upgrading and project work in liaison with designated internal department and/or external consultants as maybe agreed.
  • Develops, manages, and maintains preventive maintenance programs for:
    • All mechanical and electrical systems (in conjunction with Engineering team).
    • All guest rooms (in conjunction with the Executive Housekeeper).
    • All kitchens and restaurants (in conjunction with the Executive Chef/DOFB).
    • All public areas (in conjunction with the Executive Housekeeper).
  • Ensures the cost effectiveness and technical efficiency of all services performed by outside contracts by close supervision. Ensures work is carried out in accordance with contracts, leases, services agreements, and warranties.
  • Ensures the quality of all work completed by both employees and external contracted staff adheres to the standards of good engineering practice, and that all safety rules are consistently applied.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of management decision making by representing the engineering department at all management and staff meetings and by ensuring regular liaison with heads of other departments.
  • Ensures individual property readiness for Operation Management Review (OMR) and takes responsibility for all follow up and corrective action as maybe needed to ensure compliance with company guidance.
  • Develops and updates policies and manuals, as related to the Division/Department, for implementation in the hotel, while ensuring compliance to the same for consistency across the group.
  •  Actively participates in and leads recruitment and talent development for the Division/Department, to meet both current and future needs.
  • Is a “Brand Ambassador” at all times and ensures brand integrity and clarity are always maintained
  • Models the Company’s culture, vision, mission, and core values at all times.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in managing and leading a hotel Engineering Department, preferably in a union environment.
  • Knowledge of facility regulations and safety standards etc.
  • Good interpersonal skill especially in service orientation.
  • Highly disciplined and focused on safety initiatives/standards.
  • Good analytical mind.
  • Higher education in relevant engineering discipline. (Diploma/Degree), or relevant progressive work experience supported by certifications.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the hotel engineering operation in which min 5years as Assistant Director of Engineering or similar position.
