Course overview
The term Hospitality Management is most commonly associated with Hotels but also includes careers in entertainment venues, restaurants, bars and casual-dining, event management and contract catering. This four year course is designed to equip graduates with a broad range of business skills combined with a thorough knowledge of the hospitality environment.
What you will learn
In the early semesters of the programme students are introduced to the world of Hospitality and take a variety of practical modules such as an introduction to Hospitality Service Operations and Food and Beverage Service and theoretical modules such as Management Studies.
Students have the option of studying a language for the four years of the programme can can choose from French, German, Italian or Spanish (subject to numbers).
In the second year of their studies, students are introduced to modules in areas such as Marketing, Law and Enterprise while they also continue their studies in the area of Beverage Studies and Oenology.
For the first semester of year three students are required to undertake work placement in a hospitality setting. Placements can be in Ireland or abroad and students are encouraged to develop their skills during this period with a view to enhancing their future career opportunities.
Students return to WIT for semester six where they undertake a variety of modules which include Services Marketing, Human Resources Management and an International Seminar Series where graduates of the programme and local Hospitality Managers present a seminar to the students allowing for questions and answers which provide a first hand insight into the world of Hospitality.
Semesters seven and eight complete the programme with a strong focus on the strategic and decision making skills needed to operate in the Hospitality sector at a managerial level.
