The Role

As a Gardener at Hotel California, you will be responsible for the maintenance, cultivation, and enhancement of our resort's outdoor spaces, including ornamental gardens, landscaped areas, and grounds surrounding our oceanfront property. You will work collaboratively with our Maintenance & Engineering team to ensure our gardens remain a source of pride and beauty year-round.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine garden maintenance including pruning, weeding, mulching, and deadheading to maintain optimal aesthetic appeal
• Plant seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees in accordance with our landscaping design and sustainability standards
• Operate and maintain garden equipment including mowers, trimmers, and irrigation systems
• Monitor plant health and identify and treat diseases, pests, and other issues promptly
• Maintain irrigation systems and manage water usage efficiently in line with our environmental commitments
• Prepare garden beds and maintain soil quality through composting and organic amendments
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions to ensure our gardens remain pristine for guest enjoyment
• Collaborate with senior groundskeeping staff and maintenance teams on larger landscaping projects
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, plantings, and chemical applications
• Support our farm-to-table restaurant by harvesting fresh herbs and produce from our kitchen gardens where applicable
• Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations

What We're Looking For

• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional gardening or groundskeeping experience
• Knowledge: Proficiency in plant care, horticulture, and garden maintenance techniques
• Technical Skills: Competence with garden tools, machinery, and irrigation systems
• Sustainability Mindset: Understanding of organic gardening practices and environmental conservation principles aligned with Hotel California's values
• Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, digging, and prolonged standing
• Attention to Detail: A keen eye for aesthetic quality and commitment to excellence in all garden areas
• Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address plant health issues and adapt to seasonal changes
• Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and support the broader hotel operations
• Reliability: Consistent attendance and commitment to maintaining our high standards of service
