The 22 Rue de L’Hirondelle was formerly named Hotel of the Salamander and the Duchesse d’Etampes, mistress of François 1st was living in it. This property communicated with the “Petit Palais” (Palais de l’Amour) built by François 1st at the corner of rue Git-le-coeur and Hurepoix Street (now Quai des Augustins).

The frescos, paintings, tapestries, salamanders were the body of François 1er’s motto (Nutrisco & extinguo “I’m fed and I turn it off”) and several other ingenious motos, noted in this hotel, presented the god of pleasures to which it was devoted.
