Built in Biarritz in 1854 by the Emperor Napoleon III as a token of his love for the Empress Eugenie, an ardent partisan of the Basque Coast, Hotel du Palais was once the summer residence of the couple and its retinue.

In May 2011, earned the coveted distinction of “Palace”. Member of Leading Hotels of the World as well as the prestigious Comité Colbert, the Hotel du Palais has also earned the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company, or EPV) label, and its façades and roofs are listed historical monuments.

Today, the hotel has 147 Guest Rooms, including 55 Suites in the purest Second Empire style, overlooking the gardens, the park, the courtyard, the swimming pool and the ocean.
Its three restaurants are run by MOF (Meilleur Ouvrier de France) Chef Jean-Marie Gautier: L’Impératrice, for a gourmet dining experience, Villa Eugénie, for traditional cuisine overlooking the ocean and the Hippocampe restaurant where guests enjoy lunch and dinner at poolside tables from spring through October.
The Imperial Spa with the Institut Guerlain has been an oceanfront haven of peace offering nearly 3,000 m2 of facilities on five floors, including 2 saunas, 2 hammams, a fresh water counter-current pool, a Jacuzzi, 8 body and facial treatment rooms, a fitness centre and the Leonor Greyl Hair Institute.
